Support Maximum Mobility: Shop Our ADA-Approved Accessible Sinks

Monsam Enterprises promotes ease of movement for all by offering beautifully designed accessible sinks. Here’s what you should know about these sinks and how your organization can reap the advantages of owning one.

What Are ADA-Approved Accessible Sinks?

An ADA-approved accessible sink fits the requirements outlined in the Americans with Disabilities (ADA). ADA-compliant sinks must have certain elements to be regarded as up to code.

Some of these elements include height, depth, and knee and toe clearance to make it easy to roll a wheelchair right up to the sink. Furthermore, all hardware must be completely accessible from seated and standing positions. The controls must be easy to manage, even for persons with low manual dexterity.

The Requirements of ADA-Approved Accessible Sinks

An ADA-approved bathroom sink must have a centered floor space of at least 30 inches by 48 inches (excluding the knee and toe clearances). Sinks installed into a countertop must be placed close to the front edge for the best accessibility.

Furthermore, the sink must also be installed so that its highest point (front rim or countertop) is at a maximum height of 34 inches above the floor. ADA also requires that all exposed surfaces and pipes beneath the sink are insulated and protected from contact. The sink must also be free from any abrasive surfaces and sharp objects.

Faucets on the sink must comply with ADA standards for operable parts and reach ranges. All ADA sink controls must be centered to facilitate left-hand and right-hand operations. Manufacturers can offer two versions of the same control (one for each operation type). Hand-operated and self-closing faucets must also remain open for at least 10 seconds.
